Job Function:

The Conventional EDM Operator prepares programs & operates Sinker EDM Machines to produce complex, tight-tolerance components, molds, & dies. This role requires aligning workpieces, preparing graphite or copper electrodes, & monitoring the spark erosion process to ensure zero-defect production.

Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
• Perform complex machine setups, align workpieces, & secure electrode systems on conventional sinker EDM equipment.
• Ensure accuracy and quality an all jobs.
• Operate and understand the use of hand tools, grinding machinery, milling machinery, drill presses, lathe, band saw, heat-treating ovens, optical comparator, measuring devices, micrometers, calipers and die hoists.
• Operate CNC and Programming software and other related software.
• Possess tools of the trade.
• Read blueprints.
• Perform mathematics and geometric functions and possess mechanical aptitude.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and seek out sources for help when needed.

  • Basic or above average math skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing in various increments.

  • Ability to read and understand documents.

Education:

Minimum educational requirements listed below may be substituted by relevant experience, learned competencies and/or certifications obtained throughout one’s career.
• Two years of verifiable EDM experience.
• On-going training on new machines/technology as required.
• Knowledge of Conventional EDM Sinker machines and operating software.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Some experience with Solid Works and Cad software a plus

Work Environment:

  • Work is in a manufacturing setting with noise and some grinding dust. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull 100 to 2500 lbs. using die carts.

  • Must wear protective shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection while working around loud noises.
