Material Handler

Job Function:
Provide material handling support to all associates as needed to keep the production presses running. Drive company truck to meet shipping and receiving commitments, ensuring delivery of final product that meets customer specifications.
Responsibilities:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities. Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
- Understand Quality Control and Shipping procedures as they relate to material handling.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
- Responsible for condition of vehicle as well as responsible for condition of all loads transported.
- Load and unload truck with the help of warehouse/pressroom personnel so that materials and equipment can be safely and efficiently transported between plants.
- Safely transport materials and equipment between plants in support of production operations.
- Maintain trip log in compliance with DOT rules and provide log to Shipping and Receiving Supervisor daily.
- Deliver and issue raw material from racks to presses/ returning raw materials from presses to racking.
- Monitor the Scrap hoppers and notifying the scrap company or press room manager when a pickup is needed.
- Monitor the waste oil and notify the pickup company or press room manager when a pickup is needed.
- Move incoming steel from the staging area to the racks once they are received in by Shipping/Quality.
- Complete cycle counts quarterly for material locations assigned to press room.
- Operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies, equipment, and finished goods
- All other duties assigned.
Required Skills:
- Must be trained in forklift operation.
- Must be trained in driving Brunk straight truck; commercial driver’s license helpful but not required.
- Must be trained in overhead crane operation.
- Must be trained on all Brunk press uncoilers for safe use.
- Proficient in understanding shop routings and move tickets.
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving methods and procedures.
Education and Experience:
Minimum educational requirements listed below may be substituted by relevant experience, learned competencies and/or certifications obtained throughout one’s career.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Prior experience in a metal fabricating or similar industry using a forklift.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements/Protective Clothing Required:
- Work is in a manufacturing setting with noise, some grinding dust and fumes. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull 100 to 2500 lbs. using carts.
- Must be able to drive truck in various kinds of inclement weather in city traffic between buildings.
- Must be physically eligible to receive and maintain a current DOT med card.
- Must wear protective shoes, safety glasses, shop shirt and wear ear protection while working around loud noises.
