Automation Engineering Manager

Description:

Manager of the Automation Department responsible for the delivery of new process equipment and automation solutions to the company. Leads the automation technical team in their delivery of new and improved systems to the production facility. Successful leader will utilize both internal and external resources in delivery and maintenance of our automation systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage automation staff, budget and projects to meet the departments stated goals.
  • Develop budget and manage capital projects for equipment
  • Direct and prioritize workload with resources within department and with other internal and external resources
  • Develop new automation solutions to meet production improvement goals
  • Maintain records of projects, P.O.’s and tools
  • Develop cost effective methods for new and existing production processes
  • Insure documentation for Computer Maintenance Management System
  • Manage goals to provide a clean, comfortable and safe work environment

Required Skills:

These are a list of skills required for this position but are not inclusive of all skills that will be used in performing successfully:

  • Ability to design and build complex machines to eliminate/reduce human interaction
  • Knowledge and proficiency in machine controls technology including PLC programming
  • Knowledge and proficiency in design, build and debug of complex electrical systems
  • High mechanical aptitude and ability to create and interpret detailed mechanical drawings
  • Knowledge of relevant computer applications including Solid works, AutoCAD, Project, Excel, etc.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Mechanical understanding of stamping presses feeders, straighteners, tool room and other support equipment.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with regulation and codes (OSHA, UL, CE, ANSI, etc.)

Education:

Minimum educational requirements listed below may be substituted by relevant experience, learned competencies and/or certifications obtained throughout one’s career.

  • BS in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing, preferably precision metal stamping, assembly and laser welding.
  • Working knowledge of wide variety of instrumentation (laser energy puck, AC, DC, Ohm, Amp, db, Scope)
  • Knowledgeable in fabrication methods, welding, machining, EDM, Laser cutting, press brake, shear.
  • Capable of using precision equipment, micrometers, dial indicators, comparators

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work in an area with loud noise and vibration.
  • Must wear proper PPE (protective shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.) and follow LOTO procedures.
